The Civil War Days Weekend was obviously fun and interesting for the public. It has great potential to be an annual event. The Ashokan Center buildings, farm, and grounds are an excellent authentic-feeling environment for encampments. This adds to the "living History" experience; the portrayal of the everyday life, drills, equipage, and camp activities of the 19th century soldier or civilian.
True, for a first-time-ever event the troop turnout was minimal, and there were glitches and errors, but being a "Living History" performer/re-enactor in the camp last weekend, I can say, as a Union Sergeant, that the venue will accommodate many more troops for more realistic skirmish scenarios, and more impressive camps. Get the word out to the buffs, and "if you hold it, they will come".
